Ανανέωσε εχθές την οδηγία του για τα ταξίδια στην Ελλάδα το Foreign Commonwealth Office–
Η ανακοίνωση του FCO αποδίδει τις πυρκαγιές στο ξερό κλίμα και στις υψηλές θερμοκρασίες της εποχής και παροτρύνει όσους θέλουν να ταξιδέψουν στην Ελλάδα πρώτα να ενημερωθούν από τον ταξιδιωτικό τους πράκτορα για τις συνθήκες που επικρατούν στον προορισμό που τους ενδιαφέρει.

More than two million British tourists visit Greece each year. The vast majority enjoy trouble-free visits. British visitors should bear in mind that there has been terrorist activity recently against British diplomatic interests in Athens. A member of staff of the British Embassy in Athens was shot and killed by an unknown assailant on the morning of 8 June. British nationals are advised to take sensible precautions regarding safety and security.
Due to a very dry winter and current heatwave conditions in Greece, forest fires are breaking out sporadically in Greece and on the Greek islands. British nationals intending to visit Greece while the situation continues should check with their tour operators on conditions at their destinations.
The tourist season so attracts an increase in the incidence of theft of wallets, handbags etc. Visitors are advised to be aware of this, particularly in areas and at events where crowds may gather. Passports and other valuables should be left in safe custody at the hotel or apartment. Personal attacks are rare but we strongly advise against lone travellers accepting lifts from strangers, at night or in the early hours of the morning.
British motorists visiting Greece, and those hiring vehicles locally, should be extra vigilant in view of the high incidence of road traffic accidents. Visitors are strongly advised against hiring motor-cycles, scooters and mopeds as accidents involving these forms of transport are common and can often result in fatal injury. The wearing of crash helmets is a legal requirement in Greece, and stiff fines can be imposed for non-compliance. Drink driving offences are also heavily penalised.
British visitors are advised to take out full medical and travel insurance before travelling to Greece and should additionally always carry a completed form E111, obtainable free of charge from British post offices. Although this form can help visitors get emergency medical treatment in Greek state hospitals it is not a substitute for medical and travel insurance.
